I really like the look of these tomahawks. How good are they ? Are they sharp ? Are they strong , are they worth the money ? I really want to buy one of them, I always wanted a good quality hawk.

Trailrider,

Welcome to BF!

Check out Bladewolf's review in the "review" section.

You can also ask me, I will supply quite a few comments and reviews from around the web upon request.

...Tell'em Bladewolf sent ya!...
I just ordered one today! I only know what has been posted and am very impressed with the reviews. I am even more impressed with the prompt customer service. I received immediate response (<20 minutes) to my email enquiries. I looked at other tactical Hawks and the price of the K5 can not be beat! I think other similar products run near $300 (Eagle Talon $350/295* and Emerson CQC-T $275.00).

I hope to see my K5 in about 2-3 weeks. It should go well with my field gear.:D

*Eagle Talon $295 for military and other professionals

I can attest the top notch value K5 Tactical hawk gives you.
You can not go wrong when you need an allround HARDCORE tactical hawk from K5.
The hawk is build like a tank, they are not leightweight firewood axes, they are axes designed to chop your way in or out of a building.
So if you are looking for an indestructable chopper the K5 is your way to go.

The high Carbon steel can be honed to a very sharp edge. Mine easely shaves hair. It also slit a patch of skin off my knuckle without any effort:eek:

The hawk is also very capable of becoming a very lethal self defense tool in the right hands. Due to the all steel construction it has massive knock down power but looses some agility

If a disaster ever strikes my part of the world my K5 tacHawk will be on my side.

What did you do to the different blade edges...someone has suggested you could use each of the edges in different tasks kind of like a reverse WSK...an axe being a knife as opposed to a knife being an axe.

I think I will strip the powder coat and blue mine when it arrives. Anyone got any advise on the best way to strip the powder coat?

I only sharpened the blade itself, I took the coating of the cutting edge itself and then sharpened (40°) it with my sharpmaker. I also sharpened the hook freehand with my Spyderco sticks (around 40°)

I didn't sharpen the spike. They can be sharpened under different angles but i opted to leave it as is.

This is purely for penetration while the blade is for chopping and the hook can be used for hooking moves or gutting

I have no idea, please contact K5 tactical for these questions, i know the hawks are differential hardened but should contact the maker for that question. Sorry!
I guess your parkerizing will wear off pretty fast. Maybe you could powder coat it again, or ask the owner (Eddie) if he can make some Hawks in tactical black.

The steel is tempered at 250 degrees for two hours. Dipping in a
Parkerizing tank should not cause any problems.
Thanks. I got the answer. The way his production is set up right now, he is unable to do customizing. He said he hopes to do such things in the future with increased military demand etc...

Anyone got experience with "Ceraguard" or "Cerakote" plating/finishing? Anyone gotten that done to a blade/axe/etc...? I know it is a newer finish used on guns.
