Question about Kalinga Pro

I couldn't help but notice that the Kalinga Pro and the folding Kalinga Pro are missing from the 2010 catalog. They still are available on the Buck web site. So, I am wondering if these knives will be discontinued?

I have a few Kalinga Pro's, both fixed and folding and they are nice big heavy knives with a bunch of curves. I know Buck brought them back from the 60's, it would be sad to see them go (again). So, does anyone know the story, are they discontinued or are they still being made?

Well, I had some contact with Buck asking about the Folding Kalinga Pro in Rosewood and S30V.

I contacted Buck Customer Service by phone at the time of that thread and the person I talked to did not think they were discontinued (in fact, said they were back-ordered and would soon be showing up on the Buck Website again).

I asked him to call somebody else and check for sure and he came back and said that he had been wrong and the Folding Kalinga Pro in Rosewood and S30V was indeed discontinued.

I just asked about that one knife, as I was interested in getting one.....or several.

So while I do know that THAT Folding Kalinga Pro is discontinued.....I don't know about any of the others for sure.

I did buy a few at that time. I had an intuition from the start that the top of line folder would not be produced for long because it seemed like too much knife for the money.

There was another thread about this awhile back. I believe the conclusion was that all Kalingas were being discontinued, but there was no "official" confirmation.

Thanks, I kind of remember that thread. Not having a search engine sucks. I agree with the thread in that there is no price list for any Kalingas for 2010.

I guess when they are gone, they are gone. Buck's website does have one Kalinga in their web specials page and quite a few in the hunting section.

Here is a picture of my first Kalinga that I got from the BCCI annual meeting last June. (along with a few other knvies that I got that day.) I recently ordered a folding Kalinga.

Notice that the web special Jaguar Kalinga is a different design from the other Kalingas listed on the website (including the rosy S30V). The Jaguar has a different handle, guard and blade.

Hi WD,

The old style (original) Kalinga's look like this.

The new style kalingas look like this.

Once last note for the Kalinga fans we should have another one up next week same knife different handle, box elder I think.
It's now that week and I'm eagerly anticipating it. They seem to show up later in the week when they do this, though.

Couple nice stag knives there. What kind of steel is the stag Kalinga?

Hi WD,

If you click on the thumbnail photo twice and get the photo to full size you can read it's stamp "440C" on that Kalinga stag LE, only 100 of them were made:thumbup:

I have one of those and I have to say that the Palmwood handle is just a knockout, some of the nicest looking wood I have.

I really like the "old style" Kalingas better than the new ones.

I have a Jaguar Kalinga on the way.

I'm watching for the box elder one.

jb, a 440c stag old-style kalinga - pure class

I posted some info in the traditional/ fixed blade section probably should have posted here. I just left the Buck factory about 20 minutes ago and they had the Kalinga pros marked discontinued and I left with one of the black rubber handled ones after being told they had less than fifty of each before they were gone forever. Price was $52.80 plus tax.

What kind of steel does your $52.80 one have IdahoFrank?

I'm glad this was mentioned here. I hadn't checked the web specials page in awhile. I just had to order one of the Jaguar Kalinga's and I'm keeping an eye out for the next one to be listed.

Friday and no box elder Kalingas on the Web Specials page. Maybe they're waiting to give us a whole selection of jungle animal Kalingas in exotic woods :D

Truly, I'm looking forward to seeing the box elder Kalingas (or whatever handle it is).
