Question about knife color - obscure colors make things more noticiable?

Hi all,

I just recently bought a BM Mini Grip, Yellow color. Its a drop point, I like it a lot. I had my full size (my only knife at the time) stolen from me, and someone on this forum was nice enough to give me a CSteel Gunsmith II for FREE (Some people are too nice.) Anyway, it wasn't cuttin it for me ;) and I decided to pick up the BM...in yellow.

I figured yellow because people would complain or give less of a thought about me having a knife on me. I figure its no different then someone having a SAK on their keychain (I do have a micra, but its knife is laughable).
So about a week or two into having my knife, every time I clip it to my pocket, the yellow color standso ut. Some people are like wtf is that - a highlighter (I'm in college)
And then When I show em (because if I don't makes em more curious) their really blow away.

So I'm not sure if you guys experience situations like this or not - most of you probably don't give a damn about what people think - but I guess its a little weird since I'm not exactly in a position where I need it all the time.

Thoughts? I was thinking of just modding the tip of it to make it a little darker, stand out less on the jeans....or I could just let it hang loose in pocket.
Thx.

Why do you feel the need to say that? Either keep quiet about it and keep it for occasional use, or return the knife with a nice note of thanks, that's what I'd do.

Orange and yellow handled knives are great for outdoors use because they are easy to spot and hence difficult to lose.

That is not always an advantage in urban or knife-unfriendly environments. I find green or black handles, with black pocket clips are less of a problem. When I carried my Buck Crosslock clipped, the huge shiny clip got a lot of attention. I've found that belt pouches are usually left alone by the sheeple, I guess they just assume that it's a SAK.

Try to find another carry option that conceals the knife better when you are at places where you might be troubled for knife carry. When I first began taking classes at the university I used to take the knife out from my pocket/belt and place it in my backpack. I kept a SAK on me which was usually sufficient for most tasks in between classes.

I didn't mean anything like the knife wasn't good enough, not useful or anything of the sort. I meant it as a joke...a reason to purchase a new knife, and to also point out the great people on this forum. Apparently something I should have shut up about.

Anyways thanks for the advice guys.

Edit: What kinda SAK did you have man?

Colors work both ways. They can make a knife more visible, and some people will freak at the sight of a picture of a knife. But others see bright colors as less threatening. "Ooohhh ... that's such a cute little knife!" ;)

Carry what you like. You never know when you'll need it. That's why you wear a watch, keep a pen in your pocket, a cellphone, and all that stuff. Along with "need" goes "like" and "want". Along with all of them goes "responsibility". If you can minimize negative reactions, do it. But you have rights, too, and if the knife isn't illegal, then the complaints are an infringement of your freedom.

"Illegitimis non carborundum!" -- don't let the bastards grind you down! :p

By no means, say whatever you like. The problem with communicating in writing is sometimes things can be misunderstood. You have to admit that "it wasn't cutting it for me" is still a pretty weak pun and you deserve massive flaming if only for that. :D :) (smileys so I'm not misunderstood) :) :D
