i have a bunch of stuff mounted on my MOLLIE vest and belt that i would use for a SHTF or Bug Out situations. to save space on the belt, i was toying with the idea of carrying my Gerber LMF II on my right, outside calf.

has anyone tried to carry a heavier knife in that position? how did it work out for you? Thanks - Eric

Long way from reach if you need to. 2 inches on the belt doesnt take up that much room.

Skam

yes, i carry both my Kabar kukri and my Becker Bk7 on a drop leg Molle rig. The sheaths are still attached to my belt, but they drop down enough to clear a vest, and attach to the drop leg molles webbing. The sheath snaps are right at my finger tips when i drop my arm down.

i'd post poics but i lack a camera.

I prefer a thigh carry so the handle is right at hand level, but the last while I just put it on my belt. All it takes is a paracord loop to drop it down the required length, then another wrapped around the leg. There are a couple of other carrys I want to try too,
and one is a psk around the calf.

I tried carrying a small fixed blade on the outside of my calf and it irritated the hell out of me when I was walking. I was constantly aware of it. It was a nightmare when going through undergrowth too, especially brambles. I did try it again under my trekking gaiters, but it never came good.

That is weight you need to move up and down, back and forth, with each step. Put it on your belt. You could strap it to your vest until you take the vest off and leave yourself bladeless.:thumbdn:

I agree, it's a bad place for it.

Do this: Strap it in place with tape (duct tape would work) TIGHT enough to keep it there. NOW try drawing it. That sheath won't let go easily, so you'll be pulling it up your sheath each time you draw, and pushing it down each time you put it back.

Put it on your belt where it belongs.

Yes, years and years ago I used to wear my large dive knife on the outside of my right calf. It worked fine for a dive knife, but I think it would be really bothersome on the ground. When I moved back to the states, divers in California were wearing their dive knives on the inside of their calves, because of the risk of getting entangled in kelp. (I went with a smaller Tekna dive knife and wore it inverted on my left upper arm.)
