I wish to acquire an authentic Kukri from Nepal - what is the best source ( but not from Himalayan Imports ) to get one of these knives ?

And what could be the price range ?

If you dont want a HI you could always go with Kukri House, i know they have authentic Kukri's. May I ask why you arent considering a HI? They are great khukri's, I have many of them as well do many forum members. From my experience and others they are great knives.

price range is the important question - doing a quick Google search for khukri, or even sirupate (a particular style) will show several sources with prices well below those from HI -- but they don't list shipping costs, which can be a killer.
Since HI is on my side of the pond, shipping from them is pretty reasonable. From Khukri House, on the other hand, shipping is more than the blade itself.
Since you're in Europe, shipping rates should be somewhat lower for you.
Good luck!

Since you are in Europe I would suggest Tora. They are based out of England and have some great designs, and their quality is up there with HI.
Simon is great to deal with also.

Im from holland and got a 10 inch British service kuk from Nepalse kukri House; NKH for $45, $60 shipped.
Got here in little under a week. Havent been able to test it though, will try to this evening.

Barring Himalayan Imports, I'd say your best bet is Tora Blades in the UK. Prices are comparable to HI, however, if that's an issue.

Shipping cost to most parts of Europe will be between 1/2 and 2/3rds the cost of shipping to the US from KHHI. I agree that Tora and HI produce great wares from their own factories in Nepal, but I have been pleased with my highly customized KHHI Khukuris, now at 4 knives total.

I have not bought a "standard" pattern as I have certain specific requirements and preferences, but my experience with the custom orders has been excellent thus far. As for what to do with a knife that is either not satisfactory (which hasn't happened to be me personally as yet), or fails during normal use (also not an issue thus far), you might be in a pinch deciding to ship it back or take the hit. My understanding at this point is that if you document the failure (digital picture), KHHI may be willing to send you a replacement free of charge without having to send back the knife, though it is typical that you be required to ship it back for inspection.

As for "authentic," I presume you also mean something distinctively Nepalese in addition to being high quality fare (i.e. not the typical tourist models that won't take or hold an edge), I suggest looking at the village models from KHHI or KHT. If you find something you like on the KHHI online catalog, you could order one of these outright, or ask for certain customizations to one of the more basic models. I prefer the "village" Khukuris as a starting point, particularly the Sirupate, the Chitlange and the Chainpure varieties. These are longer, more slender and slightly lighter blades with bell shaped hilts that suite my needs and tastes. The best sellers (from all Khukuri sellers) are the military models from WWI to the present. I don't care for them myself, but you may feel differently.

Good luck.
