Question about liners

Hello. I have a couple of older Ravens. One is from 2001, and the other from 1999. I think I read that older Emersons have thicker liners, and according to my "calibrated" eye, the liners on my 1999 look a little thicker. When at one point did Emerson switch to the slightly thinner liners? Thanks.

If both liners are the same thickness they are both titanium. If the locking liner is thicker than the non locking liner than the non locking liner is steel, and the locking liner is Ti.

I thick they changed to a steel liner on production blades around 2006, but wait for someone to confirm that since I'm new to the Emerson game. :)

Oh and Ravens are awesome knives!

Edit: Just an FYI that Emerson customs have had changes on liner thickness as well, so if you're searching old threads be sure to check if they are talking about production knives or custom knives.

They changed one side to SS liner starting in 2007/2008.

Thanks for your help.

I know that they changed to one side SS liner, but I thought the early production Emersons had thicker titanium liners than the more recent ones. Maybe I'm mistaken.

That's weird. My Emerson Cqc 13 which is made in 2010 has the locking side thicker. But i'm pretty certain both sides are titanium =/

The newer titanium liners are thicker, they used to both be about the same thickness as the steel liners that are currently on the knives.

If your cqc13 was made in 2010 its got a steel non locking liner. Last I heard it was a 300 series stainless that is nonmagnetic but the luster/color of the two liners will be different once the Ti oxidizes a bit and goes to that darker gray color.

Talked to a knifemaker doing some custom work for me. I heard something about it being 303.

Oh.. i see. Coz both sides of the liners are non magnetic and their textures are identical so i assumed them both to be titanium. Ok, thanks for the info =D

The thin liners were 0.050 while the thick ones are 0.062. There was nothing wrong with the 0.050 liners people just preferred the thick ones.

I would ask Ernie but while he discussed having to go to stainless liners due to titanium costs and shortages I don't think he ever did.
