Question about lock up?

I'm sure this is a total noob question that might sound stupid but, I'll ask anyways! So, I keep seeing people advertising their liner lock or frame lock knives at "50% lock up" or "35% lock up." What does that mean? And how would you even measure it? What is a deseriable percentage for lock up? Pictures for use as examples would be great! Thanks in advance for any input.

It just means how far over the lockbar is on the tang of the blade when in the locked position. Some people (myself included) prefer a lock up of 50-70% but others prefer an earlier lockup.
