Question about looking up the specs on a car...

If a car was made in the last few months of a year, it gets sold as a new model from the following year - eg, a car built in November of 1992 got sold as a 1993 when it arrived at the dealership.

So, when looking up the specs for said car, should I look for the specs on a 1992 or a 1993?

I just bought a Volvo 940 station wagon produced in 1992, sold as a 1993. The only major difference between a 92 and a 93 model is 5 extra gallons of gas capacity in the 93, and I'm curious how far I can actually drive before I hit empty. Normally that would be a matter of watching the gas gauge, but... That broke. So instead I fill it up and count my miles until I get low. Going by this method, though, it would really help to know how big my gas tank is, at least until I get the gauge fixed.

Take a jerry can and if you run out, decant into your tank, till you get to the station to fill up. That will give you your mileage till you get the gauge fixed, and peace of mind.

In the past at least they might make changes also in the half year !

Look under the hood for the big white sticker. Whatever year is listed in the emissions section of the sticker is what the car is classified as.

There could be a sticker on the drivers door or door jamb that will give you the date it was built, you just need to find out when they changed the gas tanks.

If I am not mistaken the build date and the "year" of the car can be two different things so I think the VIN would probably be a more reliable way to go about it. Because I think my car is made in 97 but is a "98" model year.

Haven't even thought of what SuzukiGS750EZ but that sounds like another way to go about it.

When a changeover is made it is made at a specific date and everything made after is to the new specs. Find the date and you find the info your looking for.
