Question about manufacturing date accuracy...

I just got a 119 today in the yellow and black box and was wondering about the manufacturing date. It says 4-16-07 on the sticker on the box and I have a few questions in regards to that.

Is this the date the knife was manufactured or the date it was put in the box or just the date they decided to put the sticker on the box?

How long does it take for a 119 to get made? Is it a one day process so that this date might actually be the date it was started and finished being made or does it take several days and this is the date it was finished?

Any idea?

Thanks again. :)

The date of mfg of the knife and the date on the box are sometimes diff.
Thinking the box date is the date for packaging.

Here is a link for the actual date code used during the mfg of the knife.

If it looks like a chicken track, then it is 2007 (see the pic in this post: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4620888&postcount=3 )

It says 4-16-07 on the sticker on the box...Is this the date the knife was manufactured or the date it was put in the box or just the date they decided to put the sticker on the box?

It's the date the sticker was printed...approximately... :D

Having read several threads here (over the several months I've been a member), I have come to the conclusion that there is no positive way of determining a Buck knife's age...boxes are mixed up, stickers are wildly off, and blades are used well past their "best by" date...

It's not a perfect world... ;)

Thanks for the replies guys.

I guess the only thing that we can be sure of with the date stickers is that the knife was probably made "before" the sticker, right?

i beg mostly on my unbending knees to correct the
comedy of best by date:eek: :D
many well deserting buck knives are not under an expiration date...
tho in the past each had most identical personals reguardless of born on date
rather after 86 the wise elves at buck decided to have each edge have its birthday priorly displayed right up front for all to see...
and meagerly that one is NIB and from years past does not mean it any time closer to a use buy date!!!
every one as good as the day they first appeared! :D ;)
so pay no never mind to the trappings of paper clothing for it is as decoration only for transportering to you!

if you ask me it should be as an adoption applaction to gain a buck for life!
yep a "do you so manly sweer to treat as your own... ":foot:

Still not a positive date of manufacture...many blades are held in reserve for repairs, and the knife blade will have whatever date the blade was struck on it, not necessarily the date of distribution/sale...and when it's sold on eBay, there is no guarantee you're getting an original Buck or a repair...or replacement, that spent a year or two in Joe's drawer...

And Custom Shoppe blades have no date, so they can be from years past...

I recall Joe saying that they were going to institute a "mark" on repaired knives so that Buck could tell if it had been repaired before or not, but frankly, considering Buck's warranty, I can't see what difference it would make...

ahhh if one is returned as sentemal then that knife gets an X scribed on the non presentation side... it the born on date does not match the handle then it is a reissue or a reblade and needs no other identfition ... and if the owner can not tell why worry?
fine bank blades have no stamp tell jest before heet treatment as i under stand it..
and heet treet day i belive can be consitered the born on date...yep the birthday of the blade!!
on customs i want no date stamp!!! wally world knives yep but customs no way!!!
not grinding and sharping and mount in handle...
