As of about 15 seconds ago there were 97 members viewing the overall section of "Knife Specific Discussion" and 541 guests according to the information at the bottom of the page .
Is this true ?
Are there really that many people lurking in the shadows , reading , but not contributing ?

Probably, there's a lot of good info here, if you can sort through the drivel. There's 310 million poople in 'Merica, doesn't surprise me that a couple hundred run across this site on their Giggle adventures.

I just made my account yesterday, and I lurked for quite a while. There's too much good info here to not join imo

There are also thousands of "bots" out there, web crawlers, goooooogle, and others. Some forum software will show you when those are nosing around, others wont.

If you Google information about knives or knife makers a BladeForums thread or two will usually pop up on the first page.

Thanks to the genius of many BF-linked threads turning up at the top of knife-related Google Searches, it didn't take me long to realize I should join up. I was one of the countless 'lurkers' reading (and reading, and reading) the content here before I did join. I don't view the 'lurkers' in a negative light; many of them are future members, though they may not realize it yet. :D

This is a good thing for BF. People have to be made aware it's here, and 'window shopping' the content is likely the best way to attract members in the first place.

(And, at least some of the apparent 'guests' viewing may actually be members who log out when not actually posting, or their browser is set to automatically clear cookies regularly; the site won't recognize them as members until they log back in.)
