Question about Micarta Scale and ZT 0301

Hello BF,

I have been wanting to try out micarta scales for awhile, primarily because I hear they provide great traction in all situations including while wet. So, I have a few questions... is it possible to get micarta as grippy as high traction G10? Can you guys confirm micarta maintains it's grip even while wet? Can micarta scales come in any colour (dyed?) as majority seem to be a similar colour.

The knife I'm looking to try the micarta scale on is the ZT 0301, since it naturally has a 3D machine/contoured scale, most of the micarta scales I see are primarily "flat", so can I get a micarta scale the same shape as the ZT 0301 G10 scale? If not, does anybody have any experience with a flat/less contoured micarta scale on a ZT 0301 and it's affect/impact on the ergonomics of the knife?

Look forward to your guys info.

With the 0301 and an aftermarket scale you will need to make sure the scale is milled out inside for the T-bar pocket. Otherwise you will lose the assist.

There are a handful of colors depending on type of micarta however not nearly the same as g10. Tans, browns, greens, black, and denim are usually what you see available.

As far as wet I've never had a problem with micarta. At one point I was making and selling 0550 micarta scales and never had any complaints on grip. My 0550 with micarta scale was my camping, outdoors, work folder so it got used, not a safe queen.

I've never seen micarta contoured like the 030X's g10 scale or anything like that.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I haven't seen one either, that is why I was curious about this and thank you for your input.

Ahh, nice. While it is slightly different, I'm guessing then it would be possible to created that countoured ZT 0301 scale then.

I don't see why not! I've heard if its finished with a course sanding, then its quite grippy even when wet, but I've never tried it myself.
