Question about MIL-K-818 repair and maintenance of other Camillus knives

Hi. New to the forum. I've been a collector of Camillus knives for a while, as I used to live in the area and have been using Camillus knives exclusively from a Cub Scout through my time in the military. I recently picked up a 1969 Camillus Demo knife. The can opener is missing, but the rest of the knife is in great shape, and the blade appears to be almost unused. Is it possible to have this repaired?

Also, I have a Camillus MK2 in unissued condition, along with a 1983 PSK still in the plastic, and I'd like to keep them as mint as possible. What is the best way for storing and presenting these knives? I'm concerned especially with the leather handles rotting or drying out.

Thank you very much.

Welcome to the forums! Lots of great folks here.

Someone can rebuild that demo knife for you; a member here might be able to send you the springs and parts. I have a broken demo knife that you can have the can opener off of if you need it, but it may be different from yours, as my demo is from the 80's or 90's, IIRC.

As for storing the others, I keep mine in a plastic container with desiccant packs. Keeps everything dry & new. I don;t display mine, I just show them to anyone who's interested.

You came to the right place. Several here can and have repaired many of the old knives before. "Camco" rebuilt a 1960 Demo knife for me a couple of years ago. I'm sure he'll be along soon. Got any pictures of your knives?
Some parts of storing the knives will be pretty generic. Somethings would depend on the environment that they are stored in. Will they be in a hot dry climate or stored around high humidity? Those would be just some of the considerations. Knowing more about the specifics could provide more detailed suggestions.

I repair the Camillus MIL-K 4 blade stainless steel camp/utility knives. I will have to look through my knife parts to see if I have a can-opener. The early knives used a can-opener that had a bend near the tang so it will clear the other blades when closed.

Lee,
I can replace the broken spring in your knife. Please send me an email at camco@live.com for details and I can answer any questions that you may have.

I am new to this forum! I have a 1986 Camillus stainless demo knife that I recently broke the tip of the can opener. Can anyone make a recommendation for the repair? It's sentimental - I got it in the USMC.

Not sure if we are supposed to recommend places on here or not but I would contact ROCK USA CUTLERY on Facebook. A former employee at Camillus Cutlery and an expert knife maker. Check him out!
