Question about modding the CS Hawk

So I just got my CS Hawk in the mail the other day, but the head scrapes the wood, pushes it up, and is loose. Now, I read that some people filed it down so it'll fit it properly, plus they took out the screw. What tool(s) did you use to file the head? Do you make a round lip so it doesn't damage the wood? Thanks for your answers!

I use a round file on the eye just to get any burrs smooth it will fit the haft better. You could also use sandpaper to do this and yes ditch the screw you don't need it. You might have to sand the haft a little to get the perfect fit. At the top of the page here there is a whole bunch of ideas on how to mod that hawk. Welcome and enjoy.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I saw that thread, and there were so many pages that its difficult to navigate for something specific.

Yea a lot of pages to go thru think you have the idea of what you need to do any ? just ask .

I typically sand the haft and stain. I remove the paint finish from the head with a spray on paint stripper and 0000 steel wool and then use Cold Blue to finish the metal. I also use a round file or Dremel and carefully smooth out the inside of the eye. It will be a bit of trial and error on your first one but just go slow and it will work fine for you.

How do I carefully smooth our the inside of the eye?

You just want to get rid of the high spots that would stop the haft from going on these rough spots will leave marks on the haft. You should be able to feel them theres no need to over do it.

So Sunday I got the round file, yesterday I bought the sandpaper, and when I got home from work I eagerly went straight for the Hawk to dissemble it. I quickly discovered.....I don't have the right hex key to take off the head. Does anyone know what the size is for the screw that keeps the head connected to the handle? The ones I have are either too big or too small, so I need to purchase the right size. It'll just be easier to have a goal instead of buying every single one I see.

Thanks!
