a buddy has a model 105 that was handmade by either hoyt or al buck around the late '40s or early 50s. he said there are 2 white spacers in the handle instead of one. do the spacers date the knife???thanks in advance for any info.russ

Russ,

The spacers do not date the knife. I have seen the early handmades with several different combinations of spacers and colors. I believe they used whatever was on hand. Hope this helps.

My Dad said that in the early times thick spacers, the same thickness as the other washers, would date the knife as late 30's early 40's. From then on they were custom knives and oftimes used whatever came into the shop.

If you send in the knife to the factory we can take a good look at it, clean it up and make an evaluation.

Russ,
There are a lot of questions to answer to help identify your buddies old knife. Sending it in would be the surest way but short of that, if you could send a photo or JPG.
Make sure you send it to
BKI, NOT Buck Knives Inc., that just tips any dishonest mailcarrier off as to the contents.

Take care,
