Question about mosaic pins

I've got some mosaic pin material that I picked up at Blade '04 and am anxious to use some on a couple of projects. Problem is, I'm not sure how to use it. I was hoping some of you more experienced makers might dispense with a few pointers:D When you put the stuff in a handle, do you acutually flare the ends, like you would with a brass or other type of pin? Is it cut into thin "discs" and used over the top of a recessed hidden bolt? Or is it just put through a hole in the tang, and holes in the handle scales, and held in place by epoxy? Any feedback is most appreciated, fellas!

I cut them about 1/4" longer than I need, then file little notches all along them excpet for the last little bit on each end (so you don't have a notch showing on the face of your handle. I then epoxy them into the holes I've drilled through the handle, let them dry and grind off the excess. I file them down to the same hight as the handle material and sand to about 600 grit as I sand my handle. No peening or flaring.
Good luck

Use theym all the way through your handle. The notches ed is talking about is basically so that the epoxy has something to grab, gives the handle a little extra strength. They will definatelly make your knife stand out. Good Luck !

I drill my holes undersize and ream them .0005 oversize. They have to be tapped in with a hammer. I also file grooves in them so the epoxy has something to grab.

I just drilled holes using 1'8" bit for 1/8" pin,it is still a tight squeeze to get em in there.i add epoxy push them in and sand them down to size.this was my first attempt here.

One major tip is to make sure they are all aligned with each other. If the pattern has a square in it,I like to place it on the diagonal. What ever position you put them in,make them all the same way. Nothing looks worse than having the patterns at different angles.

Thanks for the information, fellas! I'm finishing a big skinner in the style of a WW Cronk skinner that I saw on another site, then I'm going to have another try at a Mediterranean-style dirk (first one warped, and then yours truly broke it trying to straighten it...). I plan on using some mosaic pin in an ebony handle, and maybe inlaying an ivory escutcheon (if I can keep this blade from warping and breaking!). I appreciate ya'lls advice very much:thumbup:
