I looked back and couldnt find any thing on this, so point me to it if theres anything I missed. I would like to know how well the black coating on the D2 F4s holds out. This knife would be mostly used for fishing in salt water. Ill clean it every know and then, but I need something that can go a while without rusting.Im not great at sharpening either, but I hear D2 holds an egde forever.I have a China cheapie to practice on too. Would the finish wear with alot of everyday use. Mr. Carson your opinion would be nice.

I was thinkin of one of the Mini Talons but after Think Of the Childrens reviw I dont want it that bad anymore. I know his probably slipped through QC, and that if I did get a lemon Camillus would make it right. I just dont want to go through that. With Kit I know the quality will be good and Ill save a little $$$. Thanx in Adavnce for any answers.

Around Salt water, I think I would ask for one in Stellite. He may kill me for suggesting that, but it will not hurt to ask.

I dont know how much that would add to the cost. I might be a little short on money if stellite costs what talonite does.

He also does them in 420-V stainless, I got one from him at the Blade Show, GREAT little knife sheath combo!

Gotta agree with Rob on the 420V. Best bang for the buck on the F4. Stellite will put the price WAY up there. With a bit of proper care the stainless should provide you with excellent service and at less than 3 oz. including the sheath, it is, as Rob said, "A GREAT little combo.

I believe that I had heard that Mr Carson was producing the F4 in three different sizes.

What are the standard Sizes?

I just do them in 2 sizes - 5 3/8" and 7 1/2" OAL.
The powder coating is pretty tough and we do it in house so when it gets scratched, send it back for a recoat.
I haven't made but one in Stellite and you can guess whose neck it is hanging on:)

Nope. Not me. Mine's in D2.

Penquin,

Me thinks that Stellite F4 still resides in good ole Vine Grove, Ky. :D

Yup that is my bet.

You bet when Kit does one in Talonite it will be hanging on my neck!

Me thinks so too BUT I would predict that if any Stellite/talonite ones escape from Vine Grove the first winds up around Blues' neck! (albeit a good place to wind up).

Nope, Bill. No deal pending between me and Kit on that animal. I do have a model 16 in stellite which is awesome, however.

You holding out on me Kit?! ;)

Copfish, Blues and every one else will have to get in line for a Stellite F4. ;)

If you are low on funds and don't feel like waiting in line for a rust proof fixed blade. The Camillus Mini-Talon is a neat little knife. If you do order one and its not to your liking, Will F./Camillus WILL take good care of you. :)

I have a couple of the small F4's and I like them a lot. Course I like ANY knife Kit makes. :D Stellite sweetens the pot IMHO. :)

I will continue using the Mini-Talon for saltwater fishing until something better comes along. I don't take my custom Stellite folders out in the ocean for fear of losing it. :(

Blues,
My oh my you have such good taste when it comes to Kit's goodies!(everything Kit does is good mind you!) I have med. Stellite Mod. 16 w/Carbon Fiber handles I got in the mid "90's" that is every bit as sweet now as the day I gor it even with moderately hard use over the years. It still "walks & talks with the best of them". ;) :) :D

Looking forward to when I get the med. stellite Mod. 18 w/CF handles that is on order - should make a very nice pair! Also supposed to have an F4 included - no sense having them shipped separate.

There is just no way you can go wrong with anything from Kit - plus if you beat it up you can get it made like new.

Bill

Shhh, Bill. It'll go to his head. ;)

(In truth, Kit's knives are amongst the very few that I can't imagine ever selling or trading. But we don't want him to know that. :))

Yeah,

Kit will be increasing the size of that billboard he calls an avatar. :)

I heard that.
Billboard? That tiny little thing? It's relatively small compared to that picture of the damascus F4 I posted
