i just got my first 2 knives from 1SKS

i ordered an CRKT M-16-14 and i love that knife

the blade is sharp and the opening action is very smooth

.
i also ordered a cold steel extra large voyager tanto point 50/50 blade.
as i was playing with it last night i found that it was very difficult to open. i applied some white lightning to the friction parts but it really did not help the action

it seems like the handles were tightened down to much. does anyone who has this kind of knife have the same problem with theirs?
this morning it felt like i had a hole in the end of my thumb

is this common with cold steel folders? again this was my first real knife purchase if this is the norm for cold steel folders or should i send it back to exchange it for another? any input greatly appreciated.

My CS xl voyager was the same way when I first got it. I lubed it up, and after working it open/closed around 100 times or so, it loosened up just a bit.

Now, my CS El Hombre is another matter...That thing is just too tight, or the thumbstud is too close to the pivot. It takes a bit of doing to open that thing up.

At any rate, just lube up your Voyager and work the action a good bit, and either your thumb strength will increase enough or the action will loosen up..either way, it will be easier to open it up

My Vaquero came pretty tight too- needed some working out but works well now.
Perhaps CS ships them a tad on the stiff side so that they can avoid any of the "gravity knife" nonsense that recently plagued CRKT.

I think it just depends on that particular one that you have. I have a Vaquero that is perfect, an El Hombre that is perfect, and a small tanto voyager that really sucks. It is way too tight that I don't even use it. I don't know why I bought it, that tanto style is almost useless IMHO.

Yah, most of my CS Voyagers and El Hombre were pretty darn tight, too.

Like everyone else said, lube 'em up well, then work the blade open & closed about 100 times, and they should loosen-up pretty nicely.

Mine came tight, I remember. I have openned and closed it a lot since then, and it is fine now. But when I let anyone else play with it, they always have trouble openning it just like I did months ago. Is it really getting looser, or is it just my thumb getting stronger? At any rate, you should get around the tighness problem with a few weeks of constant cycling.

Does anyone know how they tighten the pivot pin at the factory? Do they just stick that pin in, and let a machine hammer it once or twice with a constant force?
