Hi, Im a 1st time emerson owner, and Im having trouble with the wave to work when I pull it out of my pocket. Does anybody have any suggestion. Thanks.

Gratz, a neat knife, planning to get one too, but the 12 has the priority. XD

It's hard to explain without demonstrating it live... Find someone who can wave and let him (or perhaps her) to show you, nonetheless, you can always keep trying 'till you get it right.

Tip: you might want to losen the tension a little bit, it goes easier that way.

Man of Iron you are a life saver, thanks for the pointers, the wave system works great, it really feels good when the blade snaps open. I'm really glade that I chose the "Made in America" Emerson. Thanks again......

You're welcome, sorry that I couldn't make it more clear. Glad the wave works for you, but bare in mind that you should NEVER over-tighten the screw and use the wave, because something nausty might happen, and it rhyms with "a hole in your trousers right next to your butt". And the waving will certainly cause scratch on the spine of your 15, due to unpreventable contact with the metal button on your trousers.

Moreover, the G-10 scale will sure eat your pocket inside out due to the frictions caused by walking, and the wave hook with wreck your pockets if you use it frequenly enough. The only downside with Emerson I find, is there pocket clips, especially comparing to those of SOG. It's quite awkward to "show off" your big blade in public when your shirt/sweater/coat isn't sufficient to cover it.

Anyway, have fun.

you could get a deploy sheath made for the waved EKIs. that saves your trousers and gives a solid deploy every time.

maybe a dumb 'q but how will overtightening the pivot make you cut your pants when ya wave the knife, especially around your butt????

FWIW i've never had a prob with scuffing the blade due to hitting buttons, i guess i'm carefull lol.

the G10 on EKI's isnt any harder on the pocket than anyone elses G10 imho, i wave my knives fairly often (several times a day) and imho its not too hard on pants, & EKI clips are no more visible than anyone elses,

Try that with the same working paints 5 days a week, while working in a warehouse, you will find it's slowly eating the inside of your pocket after a few weeks. Nonetheless, I don't give a crap, for Emersons are meant to be abused.

Sorry I wasn't very clear with what I meant, I meant the copper rivets on your pants, more specifically the one left below.

I don't know how it exactly happened, but I found the hole after overtightened the pivot, so more force was required to open the blade. Pulling the Emerson out your pocket that way will only snag it 1/2 - 3/4 open. The half open blade continued to be pull backwards, and punched a hole in my pants. Perhaps this is just another case of post hoc ergo propter hoc. Anyway, it was my bad, but if you're bold enough, you can always try it yourself, just don''t sue my @SS off:D

HA, you think thats bad ? check out my jeans thanks to EKI :D

Up until last year, all my Emersons had been waveless. When I got my CQC-12 last year I almost stabbed my leg because I had forgotten about the wave. The wave is cool, but a lot of times I just don't use it.

If you are new to the wave, I recommend you put on a pair of pants you don't care about - I used some old jeans I do yardwork in. Then just practice waving the knife out of your pocket throughout the day. This got me a lot of funny looks & rolling eyes from my wife, but then I've gotten use to that.

Did that the first time I laid my hand on the Emerson...:D

you actually think those clips are low profile??

They might call alot of attention to themselves, but they certainly retain the knives lower in the pocket than the EKI clips do. For that reason, I don't even clip my 8 to my pocket, I just allow the fob attatched to it to dangle outside of my pocket. I don't like the fact that the 8 sticks out of my pocket as much as it does when it's clipped.

For the SHEEPLE the SOG clips look much less intimidatin', most of 'em will think 'tis just a pen, whereas the average Emerson sticks AB00T 2cm out of your pocket, while showin' its recognizable heinie.

The irony is, I clipped a SubCom on several occassions, and left it without cover of any kind. It made the SHEEPLE think 'tis a WWWWWWWAY bigger knife than it actually is.

XD
