Question about my new mini commander

I just got my mini commander for christmas. I love the knife, but notice that it is very rough feeling when opening. I have been opening and closing it quite a bit trying to break it in. Please tell me that it will eventually smooth out and open easier. Thanks
 
there is a little ball on the lock that rides on the side of the blade. if the blade is coated it will be rough until the ball wears a groove into the coating. after that mine have all been smooth.

Hopefully this is what you are experiencing.

P.S. I should mention i do not have the knife you are speaking of I am just assuming it is the same.
 
2 of my 3 emersons have been rough when I first got them. My latest is a mini commander and it is a hell of a lot smoother opening then when I first got it. It is still a little difficult to disengage the lock when ready to close, but this should also loosen up after more use. It is a great knife, congrats man.
 
First thing I do is take any Emerson apart and clean it with WD 40. Dry it off well and then lube both sides of the pivots with mil tech. Just a touch on each side. It will smooth out pretty decent after that. keepem sharp
 
I took the mini apart and wiped any grease clean and applied some break free CLP to any friction points and reassembled the knife. Unbelievable how smooth it is now as compared to a few minutes before. I found the little ball and the groove in the metal that it had started creating. I guess by getting a little CLP in that groove and on the ball really made a difference. Thanks for the advice.

I had the same problem with my Karambit, eventually I dismantled the knife, cleaned and oiled carefully . I was an improvement .
BTW, the Combat Karambit has 2 balls :), one for each side of the blade.
 
Got to say that mine was a little rough at the begining but after playing with it for few days opening it often the motion got really smooth So far i love it :) I just wished it was a lefty...
