Question about my new/old Police

I just won an early (as in mid 1980's) mint, unsharpened Police on Ebay. The seller says it's in "never carried" condition in the original old style red box. Model number 1007-R-SER Clipit POLICE MODEL right handed with pocket clip. Blade is stamped "SPYDERCO" on front and "SEKI-JAPAN" on pack. Clip is stamped "US PATENT 4347665 FOREIGN PATS PEND" and the blade is imprinted with: POLICE MODEL

Frankly, I threw out a lowball bid and was surprised to find I'd won. Now, I'm wondering what I got myself into. Anyone know anything about this knife? What steel is the blade? At $60 shipped, is this as good a deal as I suspect? (Oh, and no need to be gentle or gladhand, guys. If I bought a lemon, let me know.)

Steel is G-2 and I dont think it is that old.

The Police model was first intro'd in 1984. My very first Spydie boxes were blue. Red came next but I don't know what year. I also don't know what year they began printing the steel name on the blade, but the box color and the date of steel printing should date the knife more accurately in that time range.

Either as a mint collector piece or to have as a user, a "low ball" price is a good deal. Kinda hard to really tell if it was a good deal unless you actually tell us the price you won it for. Now I did see one just as describe sell for $54 and if that is you, you did pretty well IMO.

Guilty as charged.

So I got the knife! It's great. Has a red box and the tang says just "SPYDERCO" on one side and "SEKI-JAPAN" on the other side. Can anyone tell me what steel the blade is? What about when the knife was made? Thanks in advance. (And thanks, Sal, for such a killer blade!)

The first Police were introduced in 1984 and they are still being made. I think this may have been one of their first models introduced with ATS-55 steel but I might be wrong.

I think you got a great deal as well.

i have a carbon fibre plain edge one with ats55 steel on hold for me , getting it as soon as i get paid
