hi Guys!
got a new kershy a few days ago, a brand new apr 08 Skyline
i really like the knife, it's one of my fav's EDC right now, nice G-10 good price (32usd\25€) and rally sharp out of the box.
the only "issue" is, the "S" shape of the blade's recurve near the tip, tried to look at similar designed blades or other pics of it on the net but found nothing, it's hard to notice i know but i keep seeing it..., does not effect the knife and it's purpose

just to know is that normal?

thanks
Maxx

Ive looked at a ton of Skylines, and to be frank, I havent seen any recurve at the tip. It goes from belly to a straight line to tip.

The light on your picture gives a slight hint of a recurve, but after enlarging it I dont see any recurve.

Same here. I just don't see it. Maybe another pic?

Hi Mad Maxx,

The issue you are seeing on the tip of your knife is a function of the sharpening process. there is and extra teardrop shape on the tip of the blade that prevents it from damage during the finishing process, later in the sharpening process the teardrop is ground off. sometimes the person sharpening the knife does not fully grind off the teardrop and it gets sharpened insted of removed, causing the shape you have. If you don't like the appearance please send it in to warranty and we can re-sharpen the blade to its correct design.

thanks

Fascinating; thanks for the info, Tommie. I'd seen this on a couple of knives in the past (both made by Camillus, FWIW) but didn't know how it happened. Maybe sometime you or someone from Kershaw could post some pics of various steps of the finishing/sharpening process ... I bet there's plenty I don't know about.

My skyline had a funny grind as well and the edge was similar to the one pictured. It's a minor issue on a $30 dollar knife and after sharpening it 2 or 3 times it went away. Got mine on the 'bay NIB for cheap, I wonder if that was a factor.

Interesting stuff tommie! I agree, if you ever find the time, a few pics of different stages of this teardrop piece on the tip would be really cool to see.

thanks,
Jon

Thanks, Thomas. Something I really enjoy about this forum is all the insight you've shared about the knife industry.

Spyderco must do the same kind of thing on their Natives. I have one that has the reg. smooth tip and one with the small hook bump at the tip. I haven't seen any Kershaws like that before this one. I kind of like the one with the bump at the tip because the tip is thinner.

wow thanks for the info Tom!, the drop seems the reason for the strange profile,
in case I need i will send it in to kershaw for a regrind, in the meanwhile it will be with me pretty often as an EDC, really like how it rides and disappears on me, the g10 is great too

I really like it and hope to put my hands on more kershys in the future
Maxx
