Question about natural handle materials

I'm curious what some of you that have wood or bone handled knives use to take care of them. Do you guys use Ren wax or anything on the handles? I know all the materials are stabilized, but do I need to, or should I do anything to keep the handles looking fresh? I know some guys have no intentions on using some of their special knives and have them as collector's items, but I handle my Mojo all the time, and plan on using it (This is not heresy, and I will not repent! :D). Just curious, thanks for any info

I try to hit my bone handles with some mineral oil from time to time.

+1 on the mineral oil.

However, since they are stabilized, then technically they require nothing. Still, something like mineral oil or some type of non-abrasive cleaner or polish should keep them looking maawwwvvelous!

+1 on the mineral oil on Bone.

I don't think you should need it for wood, I never have, I just put a coat of Ren Wax on wood.

I don't normally put anything on wood or bone handles. Your mineral oil (our liquid paraffin oil available from pharmacies) does work well, though. Ren wax, I suppose, would, too, but I'm hesitant to wax anything I'm going to be holding in my hand for obvious reasons.

I use Ren Wax exclusively on all my non micarta and G10. I was told Mineral Oil oxidizes over time, Ren wax doesn't.

In speaking with the Bully at the Atlanta Blade show this year, he recommended Ren-Wax on all the non-Micarta, non-G-10 handles. He also went on to add that it worked great on keeping Satin SR-101 from oxidizing or discoloration (re-apply after hard use).

Sweet  I talked to Bully a week or so ago about a custom SAR that had some discoloration that I was hoping to have cleaned up. I didn't know how uncoated SR-101 reacted with the environment, but now I know it can be prone to oxidation. I usually use a light coat of oil on all my bare carbon blades. Maybe I'll give the wax a try.

I use mineral oil.

It does dry up, leather sheaths pull it away form the scales, my GW has a 'tan line' from a BCS sheath.

It's cheap, food safe, and when folks comment on how good the handle looks.....

I blame it on the laxative !! :D
