Question About New Flat Ground Blade on the Chinook II

I was wondering if a representative from Spyderco could anser a couple of questions about the new blade for me.

When will the flat ground blade be available, and would it be possible to send in my current Chinook to have the blade replaced with the new one? Also, how much would this cost? I think I read somewhere that having a blade replaced costs $25, does that apply in this situation?

The Chinook II is my favorite Spyderco to date, and seeing it in the full flat grind is a dream come true. Thanks in advance for any responses.

I'm not a Spyderco rep, and I'm only speculating, but I believe the Flat Ground Chinook II will make it's appearance once the older ones sell out. I imagine it would be similar to the introduction of the 4th generation Delicas and Enduras

No idea about the blade replacement though, I don't remember ever hearing about it being done before, but I have a pretty poor memory, so I could be wrong.

Actually, I'm usually wrong, so be optimistic:cool:

Everyone at Spyderco is busy with show season right now, travelling etc. You'd be better off calling W&R over this.

Avoiding calling was why I made this thread. :( I have bad social skills and problems with anxiety.

When will the shows be over? I'd really like an answer on this.

If you don't want to call, you can always email W+R, just make sure you give them a few days to respond.

Why a flat grind on the Chinook? I had always thought that the saber grind used was for strength on an MBC rated knife while the flat ground blades that I've seen, say the Military, seem rather fragile for that purpose.

Wasn't the previous version hollow-ground?

Lil Temp is MBC rated if I recall.

Does it really matter how strong the grind is on an MBC knife? Mine do a wonderful job of cutting me with no visible damage to the edge;)

What do you guys plan on cutting? Femurs or Craniums?

Sorry, pardon my sarcasm, I couldn't resist.:D

It's just a personal preference for me. It has nothing to do with how well the knife performs, I mean, it's already my favorite Spyderco. The flat grind just makes it perfect. I may just wait and buy another one when they become available, but I'd still like to know if what I asked is an option.
