Model 14 option?? Feature more specifically i guess.

I would like a model 14 with a extended tang. However Randall doesn't make them that way, and it isn't an option.

Why did the design change from the two handle pins and exposed tang? Really curious as to why its not even an option and I was hoping it was something worth the change :(

The only Randall that is still made today with a protruding tang is the Buxton Fighter, which is Wayne Buxton's Dealer Special. See: http://lundestudio.com/RandallOrderingFAQ/II/2.html

Here is one of mine:

Size-wise, it splits the difference between the #14 (7.5") and #15 (5.5") with its 6.5" blade. It is also full-tang, like the #14 and #15.

I have no idea why the change was made; maybe someone else knows.

If you want a 14-style knife with an extended tang, you might want to think about a Buxton Fighter. PM me if you want Wayne Buxton's cell phone number (the best way to contact him).

Oh, and by the way, Ron, stop wondering why the shop does or doesn't make certain options available - you'll only make yourself crazy. It is what it is. Even so, they still offer more different options on a knife than just about anyone out there.

One nice aspect of the Buxton Fighter is that they are generally readily available from Wayne Buxton, meaning little or no waiting is involved. He receives them on a regular basis, and not all are spoken for. At least, this is true if you want one in its standard configuration: stainless steel blade, #1 style double hilt in nickel silver, and border patrol handle made of black or green micarta.

I'm still holding out on new purchases until later this year when two new randall's are due in, so i wont be calling anyone just yet.

But i appreciate the feedback on the Buxton fighter and will keep the information at hand. Thank you. It does look to fit the bill.

Only two were made in customer supplied 'Lineal Ivory Micarta', I own the knife on top...

Hehehe, yeah buddy, yes it is - I think I'll keep it. To wit; I've gotten as bad as a few collector friends and am now stashing away the quality merchandise - if the market ever recovers I'll be rich, until then I'll just be happy...lol :D
