I want to see what was available 1940-1953 and 1965-1973 from Victorinox, I am in the Army and want to see what the old guys from WW 2, Korea and Vietnam would have had access too! Does anyone have pics of these era saks? If not is there a history website that has saks from these time frames?

Thanks for any help,

Yes, the old Victorinox Soldiers had a bail. I don't know when they stopped using the bail, but I have a Soldier from 1986 that has the bail.

The bail was probably replaced in favor of the split ring due to the fact that it gets in the way of folding the main blade, resulting in nasty dings on the blade.

Now if I could find the keys to my lock box, I would gladly put up pictures of my humble collection.

Back in WWII , allied peeps got a bunch of privately purchased Spartans off Axis dead and POW's . Axis combatants had privately purchased items - the Swiss being on speaking/trading terms with the Axis powers .

The liberated stuff became so popular that PX'es started carrying SAK's during the occupation of Germany . These pieces then returned stateside .

Outside of a handfull of countries , SAK's found in soldiers kits were privately purchased .

This is just a ruff thumbnail sketch of how SAK's proliferated in the militaries of the World post WWII .

Here is an old one I picked up a while back. It's marked 44p.
