Question about opening a beer bottle with a Victorinox Cadet?

Does anyone else have issues opening beer bottles with the cap lifter on the Vic Cadet? My other Vics work fine, but the Cadets that I have don't. I mean they work, but I have to use the cap lifter sometimes 3 or 4 times to get the cap all the way off. All of my full size Vics and even my 58mm ones all work fine. It's just the cadets that behave this way.

Happy Friday.

Might have a one that the opening isn't providing proper grip to the cap so it takes multiple pulls. I could see this as an issue caused by production variances. I haven't had this issue with a SAK that I recall, but not sure I have carried a SAK since I began drinking things they lack a screw cap, I do know I have had similar but not as sever issues with a Leatherman.

I once had a Vic Sak that would not open a beer bottle with the appropriate equipment. But it’s quicker and easier to use a bic lighter, a thick spoon or the spine of a knife. just hold your thumb or index finger close to the bottle cap and use the edge of whatever as a lever to get that cap off. Self standing bottle openers are almost a centimeter wide, after all!

I see only one possibility : The Cadet's cap lifter is thinner. I don't have a Cadet to compare but I have your exact problem with the Böker Winzermesser's cap lifter while the identically shaped cap lifter of the Vic champion performs flawlessly. I checked out : the only difference is the Winzer's cap lifter is thinner, i.e. it grabs a crimp and tears it before the cap is lifted or sometimes fails to grab as it grabs between two crimps. The Vic's cap lifter grabs every time and lifts the cap all the way.

I drink bottles with twist off caps!!:D

My Cadet takes a few bites too to get the cap off.. Sober!! ;) John

My vic rambler has the same problem. I picked up a pretty cool lanyard bead that solves this problem for me. I might have to get a few more.

I would compare the cap lifter tool on the Cadet to your other SAKs. Vic's tools are pretty standardized. Yes, the thinness is what I thinking too... My experience with this is that it has more to do with the cap than the Vic. I keep a regular cap lifter on a magnet on my frig (the kind they used to provide for free with beer or soda advertising on them). I seldom use the cap lifters on the large manual can openers because they are too thin and usually take multiple bites to get the cap off. But my Vic gets the most use. Also use the cap lifter to pop up contrary can lift tables so I can get ahold of them.

You could always take a file and sharpen/rough up the catch that lifts up the cap. If it's round and/or smooth, it'll slip off rather than give a good purchase to pry the cap off.

Good call actually. I think I may do exactly that. I have some tiny files that would work just fine. ;)
