Hi,
I am a new member of BladeForums and I have a question about becoming a paid member. My question is if I go ahead and pay and post in the "For Sale by individuals Forum" will anyone want to buy and trade from such a new member?
I have recently gone on a buying spree and I think I might have over done it, and I was looking to sell off a few knives (or trade)
I am however a Top Rated Power Seller on Ebay have 100% Feedback
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

Yeah, you're alright, but I would look into changing the color of your name when you do subscribe, it doesn't change on its own. its the color blue when your posting now, but you have to set it to the gold or whatever in your profile so that it posts in a different color

WonMan, once you've done some trades (or some sales with the proper membership level) you will quickly earn credibility with your peers here.

If you are concerned that you don't have enough cred, one thing you might consider is shipping first if the member you happen to be dealing with has a long history with many satisfactory transactions on this site.

I think you'll find that by and large our membership is very understanding, honest and willing to give a new member a hand getting started.

Yes, I'm sure some people would be leery of buying from someone with no feedback and so few posts.

A few things come to mind to help the situation out,
- One red flag to me of a potential scammer would be someone with no posts, no feedback, but tons of knives for sale. Instead of trying to offload everything at once, consider picking a couple of the more popular knives to sell first to start building feedback.
- Thanks to this recent buying spree, I'm sure you know just a little bit more about your likes and dislikes in the knife world. Maybe with that knowledge you have already found something new you would like to try. If you aren't hurting for money, consider buying from others on this forum first in order to gain some quick and dirty feedback.
- Building off of the last suggestion, you might consider starting off by trading here first. You don't need a membership to trade, but with 0 feedback, you might be requested to send first. To minimize the risk to yourself when sending first, look for established members with plenty of feedback of their own.

Unfortunately, I don't think eBay feedback will buy too much cred here without some kind of proof to back those claims up. YMMV

That too is a great suggestion. Good call!

I never had an issue much of a problem. If you do, just offer to ship first or pay first and they won't need to trust you :D guys around here really are a good bunch, I have been happy with all of my deals so far.

Qustions about how to use the website go in Tech Support, where I moved this.
Most of the technical questions will be answered in the links in my signature block.

New sellers or buyers need to establish a reputation for reliability. A few good knowledgeable questions or answers in discussion forums can help let us know who you are. When you begin to sell, complete one successful sale and shipment before starting another.

We have two ways to leave feedback here. One is FEEDBACK: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly forum at http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/699-FEEDBACK-The-Good-The-Bad-The-Ugly! Check out the stickies at the top of the forum for advice on buying, selling, and shipping.

The other system is iTrader. Each member has an iTrader account. You can access it from your (or their) profile. It is like eBay, leaving a statistical summary of deals.

I had the same reservations a few weeks ago right before I purchased my membership. However, I had been reading threads in this forum, posting comments and even gave an introduction about me before I bought a membership to start selling a few knives. I think the first week I posted up a thread and sold 4 knives! It does depend on what you have for sale, but as mentioned above, start with just a few knives, sell them and establish a good seller/buyer relationship, then it really should not be a problem. Since this IS a knife forum, I'm sure that there will be at least one person on here that is interested in what you have for sale. Be sure to adhere to the forum rules regarding selling and you should be good to go. Best of luck to you!

Hi Everyone,
Thank you for all of your answers and support. I actually didn't expect such thorough answers to my questions. The only thing that I would be hesitant on would be if I were to put up an item for sale and someone wanted to buy it, I don't think I would be comfortable shipping it out without receiving payment first. Especially considering how easy it is to get your money back from PayPal. Although I do understand where everyone is coming from, as I am a new member with no feedback and virtually no posts. As of right now I only want to Sell/Trade two knives and I do believe they both are very popular ones. I probably will be signing up for a paid membership in the future.
Once again, thank you for all your support.

if you're selling to a member with an established history, you should be fine. Its tough committing trust to nothing more than typed words on a screen, but the guys around here (as i have learned) are honest people, more worried about being screwed than trying to screw anyone over themselves. You should be ok. Put your trust in the community here to fix any problems you might encounter.
