I came across this post -- https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/up-down-blade-play-dragonfly-zdp-189.1380872/#post-15913448 -- in a thread about vertical blade play in a Spyderco Dragonfly.
The poster peened -- or chiseled, if you will, using a cold chisel -- a Delica's lock bar to remove up and down blade play, I guess by slightly increasing the contact area between the lock bar and the blade tang.
However, when I test this theory (by inserting a tiny scrap of paper, very thin brass sheet, or even a tiny, spread out dab of crazy glue -- that's allowed to cure and harden) on the lock bar of a Delica which has a noticeable amount of vertical play, the blade play is reduced, but the lock bar no longer sits flush with the tang or the scales -- instead, it (the lock bar) protrudes upward.
That makes me concerned about taking a chisel to the lock bar -- what if the same thing happens (reduced blade play, but a lock bar that sits proud)?
Or could I expect a different outcome (reduced play, but a flush lock bar) if I just slightly deformed/pushed forward the edge of the bar as shown in the post referenced above?
(Interestingly, the vertical blade play in this Delica is variable -- sometimes, upon opening the knife, it's virtually non-existent; other times, it's very noticeable, until closing and reopening the knife once or twice, which makes me wonder if something just needs to be shifted into position. In any case, your thoughts are welcome; an easy blade play fix would be great.)
Cheers
