Question about penknives in Michigan

Hello there, all, I'm new. I've got a question regarding the legality of carrying concealed penknives in Michigan. I've read the associated laws, and a few sites explaining them. However, none have made it specifically clear if penknives (or hey, scapels) are legal to carry concealed.

Here's the story. As a female, of course I'm at a higher risk of attack, date rape, etc. I've taught myself basic self-defence techniques, but I'd love to carry something sharp. I'm still not sure if those cute cat knuckle devices with the sharp ears are legal, and they're not sensible for me anyway.

I'm disabled: I use a wheelchair or cane to get around outside the house. Disabled people are more likely to be attacked. I can't just jump in the car and lock it when in a dark lot; it takes me time to get into the car, disassemble my wheelchair, and manoever it over my lap into the car. Using a wheelchair, you can't keep keys inbetween your knuckles, or hold anything else in your hand. I like to go out, do online dating, hit parties, and I also want security there.

I like the idea of a penknife positioned in my purse (which, when in my chair, is always in my lap) so that I can pull it out quickly. People assume all wheelchair users are paralysed or weak. This gives me the element of surprise. Not only is my upper body strong from using a chair and workouts; I can stand and walk for short periods. I could jump up, surprise, stab and startle or disable so I can try to run, or at least wheel quickly, walk or stumble.

A penknife is ideal to me. It fits in a small purse, even the little ones women carry to clubs or parties. My utility knife would need to be opened quickly, my late father's hunting knife would be too large, conspicuous, and I don't want to get into a situation where I've mortally wounded someone, even a rapist - for my own sake. I don't want that legal problem.

Sorry for the long post: I wanted my particular situation to be clear in case anyone has other suggestions. I love the idea of a penknife. I have some self defense training, plus medical training, so I know just where to hit with a scapel-like device. But penknives don't appear to be covered, as far as I understand legalese. I'm an English prof, not a lawyer. Any help or alternative weapons/tactics would be appreciated. Thanks!
