I've got my big piece of aluminum and will be getting the vise I need before long. What i'm curious about is the outside air temp. Let me explain, I have a propane atmospheric heat treat furnace which of course I have to use outside. Does the air temp outside make a difference when you plate quench? Let say this time of year being in the 20's and 30's air temp compared to summer with temps of 80 to 90 degrees. What I'm getting at is the aluminum plates will be colder now then in the summer. Will this have an affect on the end result?

Yes you might get a point or two more hardness . I've seen this with air hardening steel just putting it outside in the cold [no plates].

Thanks mete. I kinda thought so but thought I'd ask.
