Hi,I want to replace my combo edge black s30v blade on my 635 with a Damascus(125 layers of 1095 carbon steel and 15N20 Nickel steel) blade.

The problem is that there is a pin holding the frame along with 3 screws(which wouldn't be a problem)

Any tips on carefully removing pins?

This is one of my favorite(little/big) knives;)..I'd hate to ruin it:(

as always..much obliged for all your excellent suggestions:)

you mean the blade stop pin? nothing to worry about, you'll see how simple it is when you take it apart...

Apart from that you only have to remove pivot pin (screw) to replace the blade.

Well it sounds pretty easy.I've never taken it apart before(or many other knives for that matter)
Thanks for the suggestions

If anyone who happens to tinker a lot with folders,I would welcome(with a red carpet:D)any detailed suggestions.

Thanks,

This is what I'm seriously considering doing.I want to replace the S30V combo edge with this damascus one.I'm not crazy about CE's to begin with, but do you think I would be ruining a good knife?
The damascus is made from 125 layers of 1095 carbon steel and 15N20 Nickel steel.I love the way this damascus looks.

Take the pivot screw out, remove the blade, replace blade, reinstall pivot screw.
The pin does not have to come out.

Thank You so much:D:thumbup::thumbup:

In your own opinion...would I be settling for a lesser steel(performance wise)?

Yes if you value edge holding as #1

Not to say, the Damascus will not hold a edge. I know by Damascus Sebbies all do well. Not sure about the steel used in that blade you pictured, but it should be top of the line. Looks to be the new limited blade BM has on that gold class 635.

I'm sure its good stuff, just not going to hold that edge as long as s30. IMO

Go ahead and pull her apart, there is nothing to a 635. That pin is not pressed in. The pivot half with out the torx is pressed in the Ti. This way you can use a mild loctite, and still back the male screw out later. If it was not pressed like a sebbie, it will just spin when you go to remove it. It would have to be drilled out.

You may have to remove all the screws. If you do, the handle halves should easily seperate.

Thanks So-Lo & everyone for your helpful tips:thumbup:

I just bought it yesterday.I can't wait for it to get here.:D

I'll post pics when I'm done.

Take care,

I was thinking of picking one of those up, I like the Skirmish, but I'm a fan of carbon/tool steels, and that looks nice! I wish he made a blade for the large skirmish though! :D

So-Lo,This is what it said about the blade where I bought it from."Blade is crafted by knife Maker Grand Leavitt of Idaho. Blade is heat treated and tempered to a Rockwell 57 to 58.Made of 125 layers of 1095 carbon steel and 15N20 Nickel steel. This steel in not an import."
I'm not sure what to expect from it.It's my first carbon steel damascus blade.

Thanks,
