I just want to make sure I am staying in the rules and if this post is against them, please let me know.

Is having a webaddress in my signiture like the one below an infraction if the body of the message is not commercial?

Registered users are not allowed to have signatures and by doing what you are suggesting you are skirting the rules and spamming the forum. Don't do it. If you are a dealer you should get a Dealer Membership and none other and enjoy the benefits of such a membership. I would also suggest removing your homepage in your profile because that can be seen as spam as well. I would ding you for it in a heartbeat.

I'll have to let the moderators, or Spark, address the rules regarding your link, but here are my thoughts on this.

There are dealers that pay a lot of money to be able to advertise their business on this forum. I personally feel that links like that do a disservice to those companies. Even if it isn't against the rules, I believe that you should at least be willing to purchase a Platinum membership to show that you realize that since you are getting something out of that link, you feel it is only right to give something back.

I am willing to purchase a membership. I cannot afford to purchase the dealer package. This is only a hobby for me.

I am just asking because I want to operate within the rules.

By looking at your link you are obviously a dealer. To represent yourself as any but would be dishonest. If you were to purchase a Gold or Platinum membership and sold anything on this forum every sale would be suspect because we would not know whether you were selling from your business or private collection.

I would happily agree not to sell anything on the forum. I would just like the link on my posts.

if it is not cool, I am fine with that and would (obviously) comply.

IMO, if you buy a Platinum membership as goodwill and explicitly don't sell then you could have a link to your site in your sig / user title / profile.

Thanks for asking! Yes, if you get a membership you can have a sig with the url of your website. No huge banner ads, please, but you're welcome to that, and if you get a Platinum Membership you can also give yourself a custom user title of your choice, your business name or whatever. A Dealer Membership is only needed if you want to post ads.

I'm just getting started on this dealer thing. Am I to take from the above that if I am a dealer I can respond to people's requests for knives but I just can't advertise? I think I've also read that if I am a dealer then...... I need to be a dealer to sell in any way, advertise or just a response.

I'm sure you have answered this sort of thing OVER AND OVER but I'm a new knife dealer (added to my brick and mortar outdoor store) and foraging into the internet.

I think this answered my question in the above post. Right?

Right, if you want to advertise on Bladeforums you'll have to get a Dealer Membership, and even then you can only advertise in the Exchange, not in the discussion forums.

You're certainly welcome to participate in the discussion forums as a knife knut, though, as long as you don't try to sell.

RIGHT! Got it, sir!

This place is great and even if I don't sign on as a dealer I'll upgrade to some status to show my love.

You know, I should just make a monthly Dealer membership instead of a yearly one. A lot of people don't want to plunk down $800 for a year, but could handle $100 for a month with no problems.

How about 6 months for $400?
