Can someone have a look at the pic and tell me if the lock-up looks normal or is it too close to the other side? If it looks too far over, can this be fixed easily? Thanks.

It is pretty far over but not really too far over yet, IMO.

As long as its still got a solid lock up its all good.
You can always send it to CRK for an over haul if your feeling its not right.

Lock-up is nice and solid, I was just wondering how far over the framelock should go before it's time to send it in to CRK to have a look. Thanks.

When you feel it no longer feels safe is when I would send it in. Looks like you've got a decade before that happens. :)

Me too. Lock is a bit further engaged than mine, but I think it looks fine.

I am of the opinion that there comes a time when it is possible for the ceramic ball to come in contact with the handle whenever the lock bar goes too far over.

This would impede proper lockup and allow excess play in the blade as well as cause damage to the ceramic ball.

It is my opinion that this knife is at or right close to that condition, and I would send it in to Reeve for repair.

Of course, this would be after I repositioned, by turning, the stop pin, to see if that may correct the situation.

Heres a pick of mine if its any help . Mines a little on the shy side of 50%

Emailed CRK with a pic and got a prompt reply from Heather. She stated that the normal specs for locks is anywhere between 50 - 75%, mine is a little over, and if I wanted I could send it in at any time for them to have a look. They recommened I keep using the knife unless it isn't locking or performing safely. Nice to get such a quick response and customer friendly reply. One more reason to love a Sebbie.

I have two Larges that I rotate as carry knives. As it happens, one is on the weak side of 50% and the other is on the strong side of 75%, in terms of engagement.

I've had the 50%er longer, and when I initially received the 75%er, was a little bummed about where the lock bar fell.

Over time, I have come to favor the 75%er though. Funny how that works. It just feels more secure.

I think the biggest problem with liner locks, is that they are a guage of how much a knife is wearing, when you can visualise the locking mechanism move futher and further across, it can be a put off.
That being said, CRK is one of the few manufacturers that simply say, and promote the 'send it in and we'll look at it' way of customer service.

It's that simple... I still havent come to terms with it myself...and being an international, my chances of successfully sending a knife overseas to have it repaired and returned are fairly small, but it's nice to know its possible.

i have to admit; this one is pushing it. if you're hoping to put off shipping your knife off for a couple of weeks, try this: give your knife a firm flick and while its open, try slipping a stack of about 5-10 post-it notes between the ball and the opposite handle. if it works and the lock isn't sticking or grinding it'll probably be ok, but you're not imagining things. i think that arm goes over too far.

Coolhand have you tried stripping the knife and assembling the knife again ? Its amazing how different they can be after that .

Yes I disassembled it and cleaned it, still locks over far. While I was at it I disassembled my small sebbie as well to clean and lube it, now the lock grinds when I try to close it. Damn!!! I think I may send them both in.

send it home. it is grinding because the case hardening on the lock has worn through. the lock needs to be re-heat treated before use causes damage to the lock face. it's easy to fix in the shop and should be good as new in no time. we can also fix the tight lock up.

Ok, I just emailed Heather back to make arrangements to send in both Sebbies. Might as well just get it done right. Thanks nifegrinder and everyone else who pitched in.

one thing you need to bear in mind is that the ti on a sebbie is as thick as the blade..or the blade is as thin as the ti, so it's a bit of an illusion that it goes too far over.

CRK will make it right for you but from what I can tell, it looks fine also.
