Question about selling

I have been purchasing knives on this forum for about two months now.
I went to the up grade section to become a gold member so I could start selling but I have some questions.
What is avatar?
What does it mean to have 40 private messages? Is that 40 all my account will hold or is that how many I get for a time period?
Please help

Your will be able to keep 40 PM’s at one time. Just like my phone can hold 200 txt msgs at one time.

An avatar is the little picture in the upper left of a post, next to the username.
40 PMs is the total the account will hold.
