I have been eyeing these two folder at Hank Rummells table for a while. They have not sold yet and I wanted to know your opinions on them. I am actually curious why they have remained in his hands. What do you all think of the composition/design and materials etc.. I can see them being ugly to some.

I am more interested in the bottom one with the pearl but like them both. Not the best photo, my apologies.

Shane does excellent work. If anything, they may just be "too busy", or too intense . The profiles and flow are good.

Just my 2 cents worth.

From what I have seen in various knife publications, Shane Taylor is a wizard with damascus. A lot of the knives i've seen have a Persian style.

Those two are not typical of the ones i've seen. If I recall, there were quite a few of his knives in some of the Knives Annual softcover books and in Blade magazine.

Both knives look good to me. I prefer the bolster on the pearl handled knife. The top one seems to be one of his dragon inspired knives. The steel looks great on both pieces.

Shane taylor knives are always beautifully made, but they can be very expensive. I don't know what these knives are priced at, but that could be the reason they are still on the table.

Thanks guys, I will agree that the steel is always amazing. What I love about it especially is the contrast. The top knife may be inspired by his dragon series but I don't think it actually has them in the steel. My question is, if I am to purchase one of his knives, are one of these to worth it? They are priced lower then others I have seen.

There looks to be wings in the steel of that top knife. That and the spikes along the back of the handle are what made me think of his dragon folders, but some of his bat series had stuff like too.

Either one of these knives look like they would make a very nice addition to a collection.

I am as far from a folder expert as they come, but I really like the bottom one quite a lot. The curved lines and stout proportions appeal to me by virtue of being a bit different from the norm. Hard to judge pearl from a photo, but that looks like a very nice piece. On the top knife, I'm just not warming to that bolster shape at all. In my wanderings, I have only come across a couple examples of this maker's work, but they have always been first rate.

The damascus is definitely superb, but the overall visual balance doesn't quite work for me.

I think Shane Taylor's work is topnotch. I like it that much that, if things go as planned, I will take one of his knives (dagger...fixed blade) in possession around September this year.
