Hi All

I recently purchased a vintage 2 blade pocket knife with long pulls. As seen under magnification, both blades are stamped Shapleigh and have the DE shield, but there is no DE shield on the handle. As I am trying to date the knife my question is: when did Shapleigh start using the DE shield on there pocket knife handles? Any help will be appreciated.

Most I can say is, sometime after 1864. They did not make their own knives. Mostly made by Schrade, I believe. There's some folks her in Traditional who know A LOT more than I do about knife history than I. Charlie is one.

In 1864, the Shapleigh firm adopted DIAMOND EDGE as the brand for a line of superior tools and cutlery, which immediately became popular with the trade they served.
