After reading good reviews in trade magazines and on the forums, I've decided I want to get a Simonich Crowfoot.

I have a dilemna, and I think it's foolish on my part, but I still have a dilemna. The new Simonich knives aren't made by Robert Simonich, they're made by his wife. Now, from reading the site, it appears that Rob taught his wife a lot before he died. To the fans, family and friends of Simonich Knives, I'm not dissing them or her. I know I'm not getting the same product. I really want to get a Crowfoot, and know I won't find out if my fears are based until I actually get it or not. I just would like the opinions of those members of BF who have used these knives. Thanks in advance.

I had no idea that Christine was actually making knives. I know that Simonich Knives LLC is producing mid-tech knives, but have not seen any recent customs coming from the shop.

I thought after Rob's death, only the mid-tech and gun grips continued. If his wife is making knives, that would be really cool to get one IMO, carry on the tradition, etc. I have an older piece made by Rob and a new one from Christine would be really nice to go with it.

The only way to get a pure custom Rob Simpnich Crowfoot is to find one on the after market, and that's going to be a bit difficult, if not pricey. The Mid-Tech line is still a pure Rob Simonich design. With the intent of removing a lot of the hand labor part that Rob would have put in himself. I have two Mid-tech Crowfoots and several customs. Honestly, they both work the same. You can only tell the custom based on the logo used.

Plans have been in place to continue the Mid-Techs started by Rob, since his passing last year. Not 100% sure of the specifics, but Christine does have a lot of support from Rob's knifemaking friends, including Jerry Hossom and the Strider crew.
