No dumb questions. I would classify them as Mid-techs. I think of customs as one offs, or largely customer choice based knives. To me, mid-techs are when they have existing models for sale, and you sort of "buy what they make". Some companies have both. For example Hinderer has their "production" line, and they occasionally have some true customs come through. Another way to look at it is a true custom usually has one guy (the maker) that does it. Mid-techs are often assembled by a small crew of folks.
This is just my own working definition. Different folks will have different ideas.
