hello i'm a new BUSSEholic from the Netherlands, just got my first busse and i'm hooked and took it on a trip.
now there are some spots on my blade that won't come of not even with FLITZ metal polish, does anyone know how to fix it

thanks jurgen

Sounds like a call to the shop may be in order. It's never happened to me on INFI but I have had knives that get a change in color from certain fruit juices. Whatever it is, I'm sure Jerry would know what to do.

Are the spots on the coating or on bare metal?

If they are on the coating, I wouldn't be concerned at all.

If they are on bare metal, try a scotchbrite pad and some soap(or even a dry scotchbrite pad).

As Nimrod stated, some juices, blood etc will cause a patina on many metals. It really doesn't cause any harm but is rather just a stain in the metal.

Give us a little more info and I bet we can figure it out. :D

To remove black corrosion you need sandpaper, it is much harder than the orange rust. However since it isn't a volume expansion and tends to be very stable, I wouldn't remove it anyway.

Wookie, welcome to the forums, and the magical world of INFI...

The Steel Heart is a great initiation knife. That is what a lot of us started with. Great choice.

Can you post a pic of the spot(s), and maybe how it got there? We'd like to know.

Mike

i will try to post a pic of the spot.
i'm a sergeant in the dutch army (recon) so i need a reliable en strong knife so i went on a exercise and after two days of working (cleaning the knife every time i used it)back on the base i showed my knife to a fellow sergeant and the spots were there.steel heart detail spot

yes yes yes i learned a lot this evening

Welcome Wookie:)

I have only noticed staining after cutting meat and not cleaning the blade right away. I was able to get it off with a water rinse and some scrubbing with a Scotch brite pad. I have also used oil and an abrasive type of pad with the same results.

Hi Jurgen/Wookie-

My combat-grade Steel Heart-E had what can be best described as nearly invisible "drip marks" that ran nearly 2/3 the length of the blade. It was more noticeable on one side than the other. It almost looked as if the "drips" were laying beneath the black crinkle finish.

What was I to do? Naturally, I placed a phone call out to Jerry & Team! The good news is that we determined the mark was just a characteristic of that particular blade coating. Same as a scar in the skin on a leather jacket or a variation in the color/shade of a natural wool sweater.

The even better news is that we decided I should just use the knife as planned. If it still bothered me a few months later, I could return it to Wauseon for a complimentary re-coating! :)

Well, I've reasonably used (not abused) the knife for several months. The coating shows a tiny amount of wear and I've slightly smoothed the crinkle finish by gently wiping with a Scotchbrite pad on occasion. You know what? The mark has practically disappeared and I don't even think about it. No way this thing is leaving my side for no good reason!

FREE ADVICE: Keep your blade clean, oiled, and sheathed when not in use. If out in the field, dunk it under some clean water and wipe it on your trousers. Put some oil on it when you get home a few weeks later.

Given the average co$t of these knives, I think we all tend to get a little bit "hyper" about them at first, I know I did! You really grow to love the knife when it becomes a true "user" and you're not agonizing over it and worrying about what silly little tasks may dull the blade.

Welcome to the Busse page on BladeForums and make sure to ENJOY your Steel Heart-E, my friend.

Regards,

~ Blue Jays ~

thanks for al the tips and tools that you guy's have given me i'll try to post the pic of my busse steel heart-e this afternoon (europeen time)

With the possible exception of showcase customs and variants, I always felt that Busse knives looked a little better with character marks and service stripes anyway.

youre right NIMROD,
it is a user and also a knife to dislpay.
and a friend on a trip for the things you can't do alone.

Jurgen, for $30USD you can become a Gold Member (not Austin Powers version) and post pics right to your thread.

Also, how do your other team members react to Busse knives? Do any of them have Busse knives?

What is issued as your carry blade?

Just curious.
Mike

p.s. Just saw your album. Nice collection, esp the Italian group, and the scuba. Very sweet. I think you need more Busse's though...

hee mike,
no one in my unit carries a busse but they liked it very much.
our standard knife is the SOK from hill knivesHILL KNIVES
thats also a good knife and the makers are friends of mine
yeah my collection need more busse but that are not all my knives i will try to upload the rest (total of 75 knives and i got a strider mt coming)and i also gone make a for sale section.
the 3 italien stiletto's are gone sold them last week
regards jurgen

i'm gone think about the $30.

Don't worry about what you do to a Busse. They can't be stopped. I got a few rusty plasces on the handle of my straight handled Battle Mistress where I left it out in the rain one night. Women will make you do the dumbest things sometimes. It ain't gonna hurt it and I'll just take a sand blaster to it to clean it off.
