I have a question about the Carbon Fiber Native and Sage models..
Which one has the textured CF and which one has the smooth glass like surface like the CF harpy? Or do they both have the same.. I have only handled the sage, If I remember correctly the Sage has textured CF.... Thanks in advance...

Thank you sir, thats what I thought.., I've never understood the point of the smooth version..I find that it chips easy.. The textured is much more like G-10, cant go wrong there.

The CF on the Native is smooth, but it's a matte finish, so it doesn't have the thick clear gel that shiny CF, like that on the Harpy had. As a result it's probably not anymore prone to chips than the textured CF on the Sage and Terzuola, the peel ply used on the Military or the less aggressive peel-ply used on the Stretch II and Superhawk. That said, the Sage's CF does offer better traction than the Native's and is more attractive, at least to me.

Wait...

so there are three types of carbon fiber? or are all the carbon fibers like... on a scale from very smooth to very grippy?

(Japan) Caly3/CF - Smooth carbon fiber with a wonderful pattern, but no texture. Excellent dress EDC.

(Taiwan) Sage I / Bob T Slipit - Woven carbon fiber pattern with texture. Still an excellent dress EDC (causes no / little pocket wear) but still has a sticky texture.

(Japan) Superhawk / Stretch II CF - Peel-ply carbon fiber. Very grippy but not rough.

(USA) Military BG-42 / S90V - Peel-ply carbon fiber. Rough and grippy. This stuff will tear up your pockets.

In addition to the more aggressive texture, the CF used on the Military is also a different pattern from that used on the Stretch. The Military is what I'd call a simple basket weave pattern, which looks like a checkerboard. The Stretch uses a twill pattern, which looks more like sets of stairs.

And, of course there's the high gloss stuff as on the Harpy you mentioned, and the CF series which was released about ten years ago (Civilian, Cricket, Delica, Dragonfly, Ladybug, and Police).

There was also the original CF used on the Swiis made C22 Walker, which came from a Formula 1 race car. Those were all numbered and, judging by the numbers I've seen, they were made first in matte, then in gloss finish.

You can see all of them here.
