Question about Spyderco's Paramilitary 2 sprint runs.

This may be a dumb question but I've always wondered this since I learned about the para 2 sprint runs.

Given the popularity of the para 2 sprint runs why doesnt spyderco offer para 2's in different steel types? I would think they would sell like crazy. Is it not cost effective to offer a model in a vary of steels? Are the tougher steels more expensive to machine?

I love my para 2 and would love to get my hands on a sprint run but wont pay premium secondary prices. I havent looked at sprints on the secondary market much, but from what Ive heard their quite expensive compared to the retail price. I could be wrong!

Just something I've always wondered and just figured I'd ask!

Thanks guys.

Any steel with more carbides or higher wear resistance (just about every sprint steel this far except maybe S35VN) will be harder on machines, and use more resources to manufacture. As of now Spyderco is having trouble keeping up with current demand of their regular S30V models, adding another model with a higher wear resistant steel would put them even further behind I would guess. I would also guess that the super steel version would eat into the sales of the S30V version quite a bit as well. As for choosing a steel, I know in the past Spyderco made a version of the Military that was originally just sprint into a regular production version (orange G10) however many of the collectors who bought the original sprint as something special because of its exclusivity (some probably paid higher prices because of its thought to be limited number) So I can see the same thing happening possibly if Spyderco decided to the same thing with a steel or handle color that has been a sprint already. I definitely wouldn't mind regular production M390 or 20CP version but I can see some obstacles to that happening both from production and market standpoints.

If you didn't get in on the pre-order, then it looks as if you're not getting any. :)

I'm not sure if I'm understanding your question correctly, but every Para 2 sprint has been a different steel type.

i think he means why dont they use one of the super steals in a production para to go along with the s30v model

They can't even keep up with demand on the regular Para 2.

Sorry you missed the Sprints, but they will be more. Just keep an eye on this room, or the Spyderco forum, and you'll never miss another one.
Good luck.

Yes, there will be more sprint runs.

It is a matter of waiting and watching in order to get the best deal though.
