I've got a maxped jumbo, and a GSI stainless cup (fits on the end of a 1L nalgene) However the pouch is too tight to fit the cup. I'm wondering if anyone else carries a cup in the water bottle pocket on a maxped bag, or of it just cannot be done? if all else fails I have another bottle carrier that it does fit, and if out for a day I'd probably carry 2L of water anyway. Thoughts, ideas?

You sure it won't fit at all?

Most cups are really tight in a pouch, and require varying amounts of effort to get them in and out. Some people put the bottle in first and the cup on top so they don't have to struggle with it the whole way in.

The last two Versipacks I had were the same way. Just getting a Nalgene alone in was tight.

It will go in up to the handles but thats it, I think I'll try that cup on top idea, or just carry it inside the pack, no big deal, its a great pack, and way better for EDC than the 30L pack I was using!

One trick I learned while trying on tight boots: wrap your foot in a plastic bag, and it will slide right in.
On the same principle, I put the GSI stainless cup in a small plastic bag. It works much better with my 10x4 maxped I use for short hikes. Keeps the handle tight and it slides right in/out.
Never tried it on the Jumbo's pouch though.

I nest a Snow Peak Mini Solo Cook Set (cup nested on pot w/lid under it all) on a Nalgene in my Jumbo. I use the plastic bag trick mentioned above by tek77.

I have two Jumbos and I can get my GSI cup into both. Granted, it's a really tight fight but it goes. As I put it in, I put my hand inside the cup and "spin" the cup a little as I push down. Seems to help me.

BTW, as time goes by it gets a little easier to put it in. I store mine with the cook set in it and I think that might help.

I just carry the cup attached to the pack with a S-Biner clip. Way too much trouble for me to fit it in the pouch, and then dig it out.

I think I may have a fix to gain the little bit space required. I got to thinking about it and came up with this.

I figure if the nylon is soaked with water then stretched with the inner tube/3" PVC and a few PSI it should work. The fatboy I have is older gen with a slightly larger bottle pocket. Hope it works for someone:thumbup:.

not a bad idea, I'm sure the nylon will loosen up over time. I'm glad it's not just me. I think I'll stow it inside and use it to protect other bits of kit.
Thanks!

I take the handles off the cup to get it in. Still a pain to get in and out, but at least I don't use it often.

Pretty much the only failing of the bag...

Getting it in is only 1/4 the issue and I can usually do so, it's the getting it out part that I always have a great deal of problems with. I've been putting the cup inside the bag with other stuff inside of it so it really doesn't chew up any real space in there anyway.

It would be nice if MP would listen to their customers and make it big enough to easily slide in a Nalgene nested in a cup. It seems they have made things tighter more recently.

I think though that the vast majority of users are not using the nesting cup, and just the bottle. So to me it makes sense that it doesn't fit. Also given that the stand alone bottle holders and roly-poly seem to hold the cup, I think they've got themselves covered pretty well. Packed in the bag I have somewhere to stash my beer-can stove and windscreen. so I guess it all works out.

The cup seems to fit in my Pygmy Falcon a lot better. Of course the holders are a mesh fabric also.

My cup is a different brand... it fits rather snugly in my Jumbo. I have to spin it while pushing it in to get the handles past the top of the pouch. After that, it's a breeze.

Stay sharp,
