question about steel toe boots

I've been wearing for a year a pair of Steel toe Caterpillars and now the sole has become really worn out on the tip.
But if the tip of the sole is too worn out, can the steel cap detach ?

Never had that happen. Get a pair of carolina boots, they last forever. I still have a pair from 9th grade. they are good as new the stuff they make the sole out of is tough as nails.

Yes. I spent years building floating boat docks where you are kneeling over the side of the docks. The toe leather would wear out after 6-9 months. Some of the guys on the crews would wait until the last possible minute to replace their boots. With no leather and the constant movement, the steel cap would fall out. Most of the guys I worked with wore Red wings. Some of them would wear Carolinas or Wolverine Durashocks. They're all abouth the same.

If toe wear is a problem for you, there are 'bumpers' that can be glued onto the toe of the boot, to protect it.

Mate, Throw them Caterpillar boots away. They are cheap imports.
True story. Buy yourself some good American made boots no matter
what they cost. You'll find that your feet and legs will age better and be
less tired and won't hurt as much. Stay away from that import junk for work.

You'll thank yourself when your an old gezzer.

Uh, Tightwad, if he lives in France then the American boots will be imports also.

Mandragore, you should buy the best boots you can aford and not try to scrimp. Cats are cheap boots and are made for folks who either don't know any bettter or can't aford any better. I'm unfamiliar with the European boots, but check with a safety supply house that carries safety boots and they will list professional grade boots. As an alternative you can buy toe caps that attach to the outside of your boots that are rated the same as the steel toed boots that you are using. Depending on what job you are doing you may want to consider adding metatarsal guards to your boots as well. They cover more than the toes and protect the small bones on the top of the foot.

Take care.
