Question about swapping scales on a Strider SNG. . .

I bought this SNG a couple weeks ago and ordered a green scale from Amazon as an alternative replacement for the orange scales it’s presently wearing, but when I took the scale off I was surprised to see it was from VZ Grips and not an OEM Strider scale. At least as far as I know they don’t come with VZ Grips - but anyway, that’s not the point of this post.

The point is that, the scale I ordered from Amazon didn’t come with any hardware. The VZ Scale seems to have the female end of the grip screws embedded into the grip itself. I don’t think they’ll come out, at least that’s the way it seems to me. I’m afraid to try to force them because I do not want to damage them. Anybody else ever mess with these? Am I correct in assuming they are not removable?

VZ has been making scales for strider a very long time. Monkey Edge has been selling them for years. I can’t say whether or not changing scales will void your warranty though.

Not sure on removing them but I do know Strider uses VZ grips on some models.

changing the scales will void the warranty unless they recently changed their policy. Let me know if you decide to sell the knife to get another color you want.

I’d suggest joining the Strider groups on FB. They will definetly be able to answer your question and the guys from Strider are on there

I don’t have a Facebook account but thanks for the suggestion anyway. I think I can probably just order a green scale from VZ directly though. I’ll wait till Monday and see if I can go that route.

They will come out. Done it multiple times. Reason why they so tight , so they wont spin when you try to put it back together. Btw it will void warranty, if you trying to do any scale swap. Also may develope lock rock or some other issues.

I’ll just keep it as is. I like the orange I have. Never seen another one like it. It just gives me an excuse to buy another one anyway. . .

Got ‘er done today. Just tapped them out gently on my vise with a very small hammer. No issues. I was afraid they were cemented in or something but I called VZ and they assured me they weren’t. They weren’t. . .
In other news, the new grip I ordered from Amazon looks great!
