Question about tang stamps.

When the blade is stamped with the BUCK/xxx/USA, it that all done as one stamping including the date code? Asked another way, what are the chances of a new knife having the 3 lines stamped but no date code? Is the date code stamped separately and the blade just missed a step? If all three lines including the date code are 1 stamping, how is it possible to end up with a new knife with no date code? Any thoughts?
 
Yes, a missing date code can easily occur as the date code stamp is separately inserted in the clamp holder/ stamp holder. They are ordered and may not have arrived when the run was started as in the missing date code knives of 2008. Or many other things could have happened and as a result the year stamp is missing from the blade. Then someone catches it and puts one in. DM
