Question about the 2010 Catalog?

Just curious, I don't know exactly how or why it works the way it does...

I have a 2010 Spyderco Product Guide and there are none of the 2010 prototypes shown in current threads and on youtube. Why is it that all of these new knives "for 2010" are not listed in the 2010 catalog?

The 2010 catalog are for products that will be out this year, and are solid. The new thread will have products that MIGHT be made this year, but it would be later in the year. Also, they're still being refined and such. Many will probably go into production 2011 or 2012 if I had to guess.

Hi Zippo,

Hope this will help answer your question.

Our catalogs are started in June the previous year and come out November 1 (or thereabouts) in time for wholesale buyers and retail stores to plan their inventory needs for the new coming year. They contain all knives and models that are (or are planned) available before June 1. Since our R&D and design crew is, to say the least, prolific, we release a mid-year supplemental catalog around Blade Show in June featuring models coming (or are planned) from June-November 1. This will be posted on the Spyderco Site when it's released. Then the process starts all over again for next year.

It was interesting this year. Since Spyderco shows a considerable number of our new items prior to catalogs being printed on the forums, many forumites had the impression there was "nothing new from Spyderco this year". In fact we have loads and lots coming yet and the process never slows or stops. Nine weeks from now we start noodling the 2011 catalog. :p

The images of knives shown around here from the Amsterdam Meet is a "bit" of a preview of what's coming. Some will be available before the end of 2010some farther out.
