Question about the blade stop

I was reading a few of the pass around threads that carrot has done on the xm18, and quite a few people commented on, and were bugged by the blade stop pin. They pointed out that it was bent (which I discovered that this was not normal, due to the screw that holds it in place becoming loose), so no problem there, Rick has fixed this I have heard. (as the pasaround xm18 was a 2nd gen)

They also pointed out that it doesn't go all the way across, only about 2/3 and doesn't touch or isn't connected to the other side.

So I was wondering, why wouldn't Rick make it extend all the way. I'm not trying to criticise his work, I'm just curious to hear the reasoning behind it. I was just thinking if it joined to the other side of the knife like how the rest of the knife is joined (not sure what they are called, standoffs?) wouldn't this make it much stronger, as it connects to both sides of the knife, so it can't bend or flex as much? (which is hardly a problem I'd assume)

This point interested me and I was just wondering about it. Can you get a custom made with something like what I said above, with it going to the other side. I know this is maybe a small thing to query over, but if something like that was able to be done, it would just make me feel better, even though it seems a bit silly.

No need to worry. It has been addressed by rob on usn and they stand by the design. You break they fix it or send you a new stop your choice.

The stop is fine. Use the knife and don't worry about failure of any kind. These are tough knives. I carry mine firefighting and have tried many stupid things with it and it still looks brand new.
