I just bought a Benchmade model 690-01 with ivory scales bonded to carbon fibre. It's a gorgeous knife and comes in a nice presentation case. In my opinion the finest knife Benchmade has made to date. There is absolutely no flaw in it's construction.

Anyway, Benchmade says it's ivory, but is it elephant ivory? If so, how durable is it and what products can be used to maintain it?

From what I understand, it's bonded ivory... I don't know what bearing that has.

I'm pretty sure it's ivory micarta, a synthetic ivory. Looks good and will be pretty much indestructable. A beautiful knife. Good luck with it.:)

Thanks guys. Curiously, the blade does not have Elishewitz's name on it like the regular 690. I know the designs Allen did for Benchmade are Benchmade's property, but will they not acknowledge the designer like they used to?

By the way, is the 690-01 a regular production knife or ist it a limited run? The reason I ask is because the blade is not numbered.

I think it was supposed to be a limited run like
the blue 941 they made, but neither is numbered.
Kind of screwy.
