I've heard that the benchmade 940s blade can drop by pulling the axis bar, and has no play. Is this true? does anyone have any experience with this? i just got a BM mini grip and I'm hooked onto the axis lock. So i really want the 940, and I'm just curious, thanks in advance!!:thumbup:

I get that same drop action from all of my Benchmades, including my 940.

Mine does not have any play either. The 940 is a great knife and I'm sure you would love it. If I had to sell my entire knife collection and keep just one - the 940 would be it. I just put some CF scales on mine last week and love it even more.

I do not own a 940, but I have a Contego and Griptillian with the axis lock. Both lock up solid but will open partially if held upside down and the lock depressed.

Mine doesn't drop free unless I loosen the pivot up to the point it gets a little play. That said, a small amount of blade play is harmless.

With most of my benchmades, you dont even have to depress the lock... just flick your wrist good and it flys open.

My 940 is so smooth its speed can rival most assisted knives, and its rock solid, i pry on it all the time and it stays absolutely solid. The blade literally falls open and closed, i love it.
