Question about the brass discoloring on my 110...

Another quick one...

I just took a look at my 110 yesterday night. The brass bolsters have started getting some type of brownish patina on them...like little brown stains.

Is this normal? I've heard that brass does get tarnished...is this the case with the 110 brass as well?

If so, does it stay clean in the clamshell because of lack of air?

Hmm...that's more than one question...

If I'm asking too many questions, you guys can cut me.

Get yourself a small can of Brasso and relax. When you get a lot of 110s and 112s you won't watch t.v. without doing a little brass polishing as you sit and watch.

Tarnish would probably eventually come in a clamshell, too, but it's accelerated by handling and human touch.

:)

Yes they tarnish quickly. If you use a little semichrome polish or brasso they will shine like you wouldn't believe. Brasso is a little messy though.

Back in the day, I knew some guys in the Army that would apply clear nail polish on their brass uniform stuff to retard tarnishing. Don't know if that would be practical for an EDC but may work for a trophy wife.

I use simicrome on my brass bolstered knives and as long as you wipe them off at the end of the day,and don't store them in a leather sheath for long periods of time, they stay pretty bright.

ren wax or paste wax prevents tarnishing, use simichrome or a similar polishing product to shine them, then wax them down and wipe down after handling.

That only works if you can prevent any scratches in the surface from spoiling the integrity of the seal. Once it gets scratched, it starts to tarnish and then the nail polish really makes it a pain to clean it up.
